Best Regards, Ray Jia Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help. Is there anyway i can run it faster because i can wait so many days for this to finish? Current Visibility: Visible to all users If your current environment has only one WSUS, it is recommended to uninstall the current WSUS and reinstall it. In my opinion, uninstalling and reinstalling the WSUS role will solve the current problem more quickly. Then restart the server. In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance. Expand Databases, right-click the database to delete, and then click Delete. Confirm the correct database is selected, and then click OK. Then restart the server. Current Visibility: Visible to all users Here is the following picture about how to use this script for your reference: Current Visibility: Visible to all users I have already run the reindexing but it doesnot help. Anyway after about 100 updates was deleted the wsus sync start to work again. So now i delete about 1000 updates each day and after 20 days will be clean. I read in another forums also that other guys have same problem for others also took more than 15 days to finish Current Visibility: Visible to all users If i do what you suggest, is this going to impact my SCCM? Current Visibility: Visible to all users Following the above actions is OK. Don't forget to rebuild the WSUS role after uninstalling it. You would be able to let it run in the background and it would work and work until it's done.http://xn--76--pdd4bl.xn--p1ai/pic/userfile/fender-the-twin-manual.xml

So i went ahead and uninstall the WSUS but i still have all the computers in the domain asking for update directly from administrator. Please could anyone give clue on how to reverse the registry settings, in other to make my clients download windows update directly from Microsoft. I look forward to a favourable response, because I have being instructed now to find a lasting solution to the frequent automation update messages my clients are getting.Enabling this setting means that end users in your organization don't have to go through a firewall to get updates, and it gives you the opportunity to test updates before deploying them. Usually under Computer Configuration, Administrative Updates, Windows Update. You would need to find the GPO that is enforcing the settings. Change it to have the target computer get their updates from the Microsoft website. So my major concern is that after I finish installing, using the right GP setting, and confirming that WSUS can syn and download updates, I notice that none of the clients get the any update even after my approval. Indeed, it can be very frustrating to find out that the so called WSUS doesn't work for me, for reasons I don't know. Now, I need to save the situation at hand first before going back to troubleshooting WSUS installation in my personal lab. Please i need sequential steps to get my clients system back to receiving updates from microsoft website, i don't mind bandwidth for now. I'd definitely suggest figuring out why it's breaking instead of abandoning it. Enabling this setting means that end users in your organization don't have to go through a firewall to get updates, and it gives you the opportunity to test updates before deploying them. I'm now using my system to test if i can now download directly from windows update site. I hope it works for me this time. I really found all the information posted on this page useful.http://anazer.com/userfiles/fiat-cinquecento-workshop-manual-pdf.xml Let’s learn how to clean up WSUS content folder. After the changes below the updates where only 1 GB. I have a very nice script below that saved me 300 of downloads. When the CPU drops you’re ready to proceed. Now the purpose of this post is to also reclaim VMFS storage, so downloading all and then deleting them won’t help much. Luckily there’s a script for that. When the space has been alllocated it will stay that way until you do the following steps below. I reclaimed 120 GB in 2 hours on just 1 VM! Saves an additional 500 downloads or so. Am I supposed to manually delete this folder and then allow the batch file to continue? Just don’t want to delete stuff without you knowing. Getting this when trying to run it: Before doing your steps I was it over 300 GB of updates. Redid the sever now only downloading 62 GB. Total Declined Updates: 3690 I went from 600GB down to 84GB of WSUS storage. Needed to enter the fqdn for the server. What OS are you trying on? Your answer is highly appreciated. Any thoughts? Thanks anyways! Seems like many are having similar issues. I try to follow the script, and I found it stopped here. Reindexing the WSUS Database did the trick. Now “declining” updates at full speed. Thanks for the great post. I cleaned up around 250 GB The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. In SQL i have connction timeout set to 0 When starting the service again I noticed the CPU climbing up but not for more than 5-6 minutes. If the CPU is high for a short time, means that you have a powerful server ?? I changed line 3 from I’ve done the reset. Parameter name: ServerName In an effort to clean up the server I selected the option under “Update Files and Languages” to “Do not store updates files locally; computers install from Microsoft Update”. Since the status has been “Cannot save configuration because the server is still processing a previous configuration change”.https://www.informaquiz.it/petrgenis1604790/status/flotaganis20032022-1724 My plan was to set that option, run the cleanup wizard to purge the updates and then set it back to storing updates locally. It’s been over 24hrs and the status is the same. From what I’ve read there’s not a lot of ways to stop this. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks! It does way more than what you’re post says, and it’s so easy to setup and use. It is the last WSUS Script you will ever need! This is where it errors out. Any help would be great. Then open PS with admin rights and run the script. It will perform flawlessly. So after running the script i performed the command below as suggested by nitin Before it was 60GB of disk space Without your script, my wsus would have exploded due to windows defender definition updates. Windows Definition updates is exploding my WSUS. The script was timing out before I ran the following commands: No need for all the scripts. Takes a little while to run but it will remove all of the declines and superseded updates automatically. Click on Options and look for the wizard. If you use Thin disk provisioning there’s no easy way back and you waste space. That’s the intention of the script. Over 6757 Declined Updates. Nice Post thank you. I tried changing secure connection to True. I added a NewPSSessionOption for the timeout to unlimited and I let it run overnight and the script was still in the same spot when I came back. When I started I had around 600gb of updates on the server, when I went through the first script and deleted the wsus content and reset updates it has downloaded 100gb now already. Is there a way to delete only client superseded updates? Anything at all will help. I cannot overcome this issue. Thank you Just try to set the ComputerName manually as stated in the newest comments. Likely because the hyphen would be treated like a math symbol minus sign in a sql connection statements, etc. Anyone having that issue can use the IP address, port instead of the servername, port since this is also a valid way of providing a connection string since the port specifies specifically which SQL instance to connect to.Please help. The database file is located in the following place: You should have no problem going through the post-configuration process and have a clean new WSUS. Load.NET assembly. Connect to WSUS Server. The issues caused by the updates can be either mass and occur in a large number of devices or private that occur in some combinations of the Windows OS version and some apps. But if necessary, in Windows there is a way to uninstall any security update or patch. These ways of removing updates can be used if you installed the update manually from a CAB or MSU file, your device automatically received it from the Windows Update servers or your WSUS server. It is recommended to report the found problem to Microsoft technical support team and wait for the new version of updates to appear. Never disable automatic Windows update, neither uninstall updates in order to improve the performance of your system, nor to free up some space on the disk (to do it, the latest Windows versions have the cleanup wizard that allows to remove older versions of the updated files). Otherwise, your computer’s security is at serious risk! Find the necessary update in the list (or, to be more precise, unnecessary:)), select it, click the Uninstall button. The uninstall update wizard starts. After the update is removed, Windows may request a system restart. But you can prevent the installation of a specific update by hiding (blocking) it. To do this, use the official tool Microsoft Show or Hide Updates You can remove the hidden update by selecting it in the Show hidden updates. To do it, there is a built-in CLI tool wusa.exe (Windows Update Standalone Installer).http://www.bouwenaaneensterkwerkgeversmerk.nl/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162863a039429c---C253-konica-minolta-manual.pdf The Remove-WindowsUpdate cmdlet is used: To do it, right-click the Updates branch and then click Search in the menu. In the list containing the updates that have been found for different Windows versions, select the updates to be uninstalled and click Approve in the menu. In this case, you may have to boot the computer from the rescue or install boot disk and delete the updates via DISM (see the article “ Computer Won’t Start After Windows Update ”) or using the “ Hotfix uninstall ” utility from the MSDaRT. I must attempt install only with 1gb of ram, change the hard disk, or whatever. I think it’s means that the resulting KB list is empty (no updates are installed on the computer). What is your version of Windows. You can also subscribe without commenting. WSUS, by default, places its database and downloaded files on your system drive, which can leave your server in a critical state. This does not necessarily remove disk files you would expect and can need some encouragement by manually “unapproving” updates under “All Updates”. Follow the steps here to deselect updates you don’t ever want and remove all updates from disk. By removing all updates from disk and running a reset, it will start downloading those updates again; this delete is nothing to worry about. In my case, I still had the problem of the WSUS Database itself being 30Gb.It can be managed via SQL Server Management Studio. You can download this for free from here. After many problems downloading versions that couldn’t be installed on this particular server due to its particular configuration, version, patch level etc, I found Management Studio 2005 worked a treat. Your mileage may vary and it is worth persevering until you find an appropriate working version. First we need to free up some space by deleting redundant data. Over time, this can eat a lot of space in the database with surprisingly few workstations. To put that another way: This worked for me, your mileage may vary.http://www.tecnotrefg.it/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162863a0a55247---C253-konica-minolta-manual.pdf Where data has been deleted from the database, this will not be reflected in the file size until the file is shrunk. It is now effectively full of holes and needs defragging. This takes the holes out of the file. In my case, it told me it could shrink it to 2Gb (from just over 30Gb) Check you can connect to it from the WSUS admin tool. Run any updates and do any approvals, then run the “reset” command again from here to persuade it to re-download any updates it needs. Here are some reasonable instructions on how to do this using the sqlcmd.exe commandline tool to detach and reattach a database. By clicking OK, you consent to the use of cookies. When I saw the amount of drivers to download compared to the percentage used, I wanted to backtrack. The problem is that once you synchronize to the WSUS database, you have to approve or reject the files. The solution to remove all traces of the drivers is to go through PowerShell. If you remove unnecessary content by using the Server Cleanup Wizard, all the private update files that you have downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog site are also removed. You must reimport these files after you run the Server Cleanup Wizard. To remove auto-approved updates that are in an approved state, the WSUS Admin must - at minimum - manually set the approval status of superseded updates to Not Approved so they will be eligible for declination by the Server cleanup Wizard. The Server cleanup Wizard will ensure a newer update is approved and that no client system is still reporting that update as needed before marking the update as Declined. The Server Cleanup Wizard will remove the unneeded files and not touch the still needed files. The procedure as written above will delete all of the files still needed and then force them to be re-downloaded — a very inefficient and unnecessary process. A new column 2 will appear. Use it to sort all your approved items. Select all superseded items (they are grouped by 2 different icons), and decline them. NOTE: This 'brutal' approach saved a choking server by reducing the disk usage (about 50). One thing to add: I got an MMC error when trying to sort on the Supersencence column. I found that if I de-select the Status Rollup colum so that Supersencense is the first column, then it sorts without error.
